After dinner at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza on April 11th, our meeting moved to the Julia Fowler Planetarium and the Bradstreet Observatory for a “night under the stars.” Professor and Chair of the Astronomy and Physics Department at Eastern University and a 1976 graduate, Dr. David Bradstreet took us on an entertaining and educational flight through the night sky, including black holes and distant galaxies. Dr. Bradstreet has been at Eastern University for 44 years and is the senior faculty member.
Top photo is a depiction of a black hole, similar that recently photographed by a large international team of astronomers and computer scientists.
For our April 4th Meeting, we had the pleasure of welcoming our newest member, Carsten Bogs as well as learning more about another recent member, Barbara Richardson during her classification Q&A.
Barbara was born in NYC but has lived most of her life in our area. She majored in languages at Hamilton College and put her French and German to use when she lived for a short time in France and Austria. She’s married and has 2 sons, one of whom currently lives with his wife in Paris.
Barbara started working in the legal department area in real estate but later switched to sales. She is a very experienced real estate agent and currently works for Berkshire Hathaway.
We also inducted our newest member, Carsten Bogs and look forward to his classification speech as well!
In February, PMB Rotarian and Vice-President Jim Brown visited Lebanon where he warmly welcomed at the bi-weekly evening meeting of the Koura Rotary Club. Their club is very active with community service projects such as the installation of solar power street lighting and providing toiletries and clothing to prisoners. There are about 23 active Rotary clubs in Lebanon!
